Reading
Reading Curriculum Intent.
At St Edward's, we offer a broad and balanced reading curriculum rooted in the National Curriculum. Children are taught to read using a systematic synthetic phonics scheme (ELS) and through which they will develop an early love of reading. Children will be exposed to a variety of quality texts; fiction, non-fiction, poetry, celebrated and new authors through a reading rich curriculum, guided reading and reading for pleasure opportunities.
Key Stage 1 Reading Scheme
We use Oxford Reading Tree as our main reading scheme in Reception and Key Stage One to compliment our phonics scheme Essential Letter and Sounds. This ensures that our children have books that are phonetically decodable.
